Chartwell visit
This year’s summer outing is to Chartwell in Kent on Wednesday, June 22. Famous as the home of Sir Winston Churchill, the rooms remain much as they were when he lived there with pictures, books, personal mementoes and many of his paintings on display in his studio. Sir Winston purchased Chartwell for its magnificent views over the Weald of Kent and created a beautiful garden with lakes. Lady Churchill’s Rose Garden and the kitchen garden are also worth a visit. There is a restaurant and a shop on site. Chartwell is now owned by the National Trust.
Please note – because we will be arriving by coach, access to the House is only via the visitor route through the gardens which involves steps and slopes.
We will depart from outside Gregory’s Café, SQ bus stop opposite Reading Station with Stewarts of Mortimer at 9.45am. Our return to Reading Station will be by 6pm approx. The journey takes approximately 1½ hrs. Group entry to the property (house, grounds, etc) is £9.80 per person. Cost of the coach is £15.00 per person including a tip for the driver. National Trust members will have free entry to the property on production of their membership card.
