| Let’s
go trekking
RRC member Sally Sinclair-Webb recently went on
a charity trek in Jordan
Day 1
After a terrific breakfast we started out. The morning was spent
exploring the rose city of Petra created by the Nabataeans 2,000
years ago, along a narrow closed valley with pinkish sandstone –
no sign of Indiana Jones so we had to settle for the security guard
who was travelling with us for help over the one or two steep and
scrambly bits. Two or three hours of trekking brought us to our
camp for the night in true Bedouin style.
Day 2
Our route took us along a green wadi with many wild flowers. Arrived
at Little Petra some 8kms from Petra. Some climbing up narrow crevices
and along narrow ridges followed and after a few more hours’
trekking we arrived at our second night of camping under the stars.
Barbecued lamb and chicken around the campfire ended another memorable
day.
Day 3
Our final day of trekking and a farewell to our trusty donkeys who
were carrying our water and a short coach ride back to Petra Guest
House. Everyone agreed that the whole experience of trekking in
support of Marie Curie was truly rewarding and we raised £30,000.
I would urge you all to do a charity trek if you get the chance.
